Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Sir Arthur Ignatius Conan Doyle DL (22 May 1859 – 7 July 1930) was a Scottish physician and writer, most noted for his stories about the detective Sherlock Holmes, generally considered a milestone in the field of crime fiction, and for the adventures of Professor Challenger. He was a prolific writer whose other works include science fiction stories, plays, romances, poetry, non-fiction and historical novels.

During the Disappearance of Agatha Christie Conan Doyle gave a spirit medium one of Christie's gloves to find her. In The Mysterious Case of Agatha Christie he was portrayed by Bill Paterson. Conan Doyle also appears as a character in the TV drama Agatha and the Truth of Murder where he was portrayed by Michael McElhatton. There Conan Doyle is approached by Agatha Christie for help because she is suffering from writer's block. Conan Doyle gives her a piece of secret advice which he says he would deny if it ever came out: his secret for getting back into writing after a bad patch was to design a golf course: "it was like channeling the hand of God."
